At Fish Potrero, we're more than a fishing charter — we're your link to the incredible sportfishing of Costa Rica's Guanacaste coast. Based right here in Playa Potrero with easy access to the Flamingo Marina, our operation is built on decades of experience reading these Pacific waters.
Every trip we run is fully private, with top-tier gear for both offshore battles with marlin and sailfish and inshore pursuits of the mighty roosterfish. You get seasoned local captains, a premium day on the water, and the little things that matter — refreshments aboard and fresh fish prepped and ready when you dock. Just show up and fish; we handle the rest.

The Difference Is Local
Plenty of operators can put you on a boat. What sets us apart is that these are our home waters — and we treat every charter like we're taking a friend out. Our captains are licensed locals who've fished these grounds for decades, so they know where the fish are holding when conditions change, not just where they were last week.
We don't cut corners on gear, either. Every boat runs well-maintained rods and reels and current fish-finding electronics, so the only variable on a slow bite is the fish — never your equipment. And because it's a private charter, the day is yours: bait and tackle sorted, cold drinks aboard, and your catch cleaned and prepped by the time you're back at the dock. All you bring is the crew you want to fish with.

Fishing Local, Giving Back
Our captains and crew aren't seasonal hires — they're lifelong residents of Potrero and Flamingo. When you book with us, that money stays in town: it supports local families and helps keep a fishing heritage alive that goes back generations here.
We fish these waters with respect, because we're the ones who have to fish them next year. That means strict catch-and-release on billfish, taking only what's eaten, and doing our part to keep the ecosystem that feeds this whole coast healthy. Booking a charter here isn't just a day out — it's a stake in a community that's been good to us.
Two Fisheries, One Short Run
What makes this stretch of coast special is that the continental shelf drops off sharply just offshore — so the deep blue is a short run, not a long haul. That gives you a real choice each morning: head out for marlin, sailfish, tuna and mahi, or stay in tight around the Catalinas and the rocky coves for roosterfish, cubera snapper and jack crevalle.
Most days we can do both. Less time running, more time fishing — and a fair shot at a trophy either way.
